WRAC advances $3 Million indoor pickleball project

WENATCHEE - The Wenatchee Racquet and Athletic Club (WRAC) is advancing its plans for a new dedicated indoor pickleball facility, marking the first step in the club's ten-year capital expansion plan.

The $3 million project will add six indoor pickleball courts to the club's campus at 1913 Skyline Dr in Wenatchee. This expansion will provide year-round, climate-controlled courts for play programs, tournaments, and instruction.

WRAC recently received delivery of the pre-engineered metal building, representing a $400,000 investment. The building is currently staged west of the club's upper facility parking lot.

The project awaits final approval. A conditional Use Permit hearing is scheduled for August 27, and building permit approval is expected by mid-September. Construction is set to begin in September, with completion anticipated in Spring 2025.

The budget has increased by nearly 20% due to new regulatory requirements, including flood certifications, state building and energy codes, and HVAC upgrades to maintain year-round temperature control.

Cascade Central Construction is the contractor and Complete Design handles architecture and permitting. Peoples Bank is providing financing for the project.

WRAC officials emphasize the need for member support in pre-selling memberships and sponsorships. The pickleball facility is the first phase of a broader expansion plan that includes future updates to outdoor courts and a new aquatic facility.

Currently, WRAC offers eight pickleball courts through the shared use of two tennis courts. The new facility will increase the club's capacity to host large tournaments, potentially accommodating up to 22 indoor courts when combined with existing shared spaces.

The club views this expansion as necessary for staying competitive in the fitness and wellness industry, providing additional opportunities for active lifestyles in the Wenatchee Valley.
